1 Cor. 4:2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
You, Lord Jesus were found faithful. You were faithful to speak only what you had been given by your Father (John 12:49). You were faithful to do only the works he gave you to do (John 5:19). You faithfully used your power, only for the glory of your Father and for the good of those you came to serve, not once, not even to make for yourself a bit of bread, did you misuse your power for your ease or glory (John 17:4).
You were faithful to save everyone for whom you came to die, every one of them (John 6:39). You were faithful to your friends, faithful to your family. Faithful to forgive your worst enemies even when they were torturing you to death (Luke 23:24). So faithful to your mother that while you hung dying one of your last thoughts was to tend to her, asking your best friend on the planet, John, to take your mother as his own, ever the faithful son (John 19:26–27). Ever the Faithful Son.
Lord, make me faithful. Faithful to you first and most of all. May I never leave your side, but always cling to you. Heart to heart with you, let me live all my days. Let me bask in your love, delight in your presence, rejoice for your glory, in prayer and praise
May I be faithful to your Word, walking in the paths of your commands. Faithful to accept every word from your mouth, to believe it, obey it, and to declare it. May I never add to or subtract one jot or tittle from your Word. May I stand on your Word over against the world, whatever the cost or opposition I face.
May I be faithful to my wife, nurturing, protecting, encouraging, loving, allowing not an inch of distance to grow between her heart and mine. Let me be “intoxicated always in her love” (Prov. 5:19).
May I be faithful to our family, our sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. To love, encourage, build them up, and to support them with all that we have that will bless them. May they find me ever at the ready to listen and to love. May I be faithful to my extended family, brothers, sister, in-laws, uncles, nephews and nieces. May I uphold them in prayer.
May I be faithful to your call, to serve this mission church and her growing group of people with word and deed, love and compassion. To serve my presbytery and denomination with all the resources and energy you have given me. Let me always be quick in zeal to serve, to lead, to teach, and to help.
It is required of stewards that they be found faithful. It sounds like such a small thing. Just faithful, not successful, not famous, not rich, just faithful. Yes, just faithful. It is not just one important aspect of Christian service, it is the one most important aspect of service to Christ. Oh, for more faithful stewards in your service today! You, Lord Jesus, were found faithful. Lord, please, make me faithful.
